State all three dimensions
Flat-bar quotations require thickness, width and length. Mark which dimensions include machining allowance and whether tolerance applies to sawn, milled or finished surfaces. If grain direction or part orientation matters, show it on the drawing.
Define surface and machining
Saw-cut material and six-side milled material are not equivalent quotation items. List required surface condition, flatness, parallelism and edge treatment. If the final part is smaller than the supplied blank, provide both supplied and finished dimensions.
Confirm condition and documents
Name the governing standard, delivery condition and any ESR requirement. List material certificate, heat identification, hardness testing, ultrasonic testing and other inspection records individually. Certificate and inspection scope should be confirmed in the order.
Use the application to clarify risk
State whether the material is intended for die casting, extrusion, a wheel mould or another hot-work application. This does not replace the specification, but it helps identify unclear hardness, machining or inspection requirements before production.
