Define the material before the size

Start with the grade and the governing standard. H13, SKD61 and 1.2344 are often treated as equivalents, but the purchase order should still identify the standard whose chemistry and acceptance rules apply. State whether electroslag remelted material is required and whether substitute designations need written approval.

Separate ordered size from finished size

Round-bar enquiries should distinguish nominal diameter, machining allowance and finished diameter. Also state cut length, straightness or end-condition requirements, quantity by size and whether the bar will be rough-machined before delivery. This prevents a quotation based on stock size from being compared with a quotation based on finished size.

Write the inspection scope

If ultrasonic testing is required, name the method or standard, scan coverage, acceptance level and report requirement. List the required certificate type, heat-number traceability and any additional chemistry, hardness or metallographic records. Inspection should be agreed in the quotation rather than assumed from a general website statement.

Send a complete RFQ

Include grade, standard, ESR requirement, diameter, length, quantity, delivery condition, machining allowance, testing, documents, packaging, destination and requested date. Sunbond then reviews material availability, cutting or forging route and order-specific minimum quantity.
